A graduate of the University of Massachusetts Medical Center’s plastic surgery residency program, Dr. Keith Berman has almost 20 years of experience in the field. Specializing in plastic surgery of the body, face, and breasts, Dr. Keith Berman holds board certification from the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS). With more than 6,000 certified plastic surgeons in active practice and almost 10,000 certified since 1937, the nonprofit ABPS is dedicated to promoting industry standards in the areas of examination, education, and certification. ABPS certification must be renewed every 10 years to ensure that practitioners maintain commitment to continual improvement. First-time candidates for certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgery must successfully complete both a written and an oral examination. Administered over nearly seven hours on one day each October and open to current licensed or registered medical professionals in good standing, the ABPS written exam consists of four 100-question blocks. Candidates must also verify hospital privileges for any facilities where they performs surgeries. After passing the written exam, candidates submit a nine-month case list for oral exam qualification, which is evaluated for volume, complexity, and diversity. Oral exam candidates must then present five case studies during the two-and-a-half day exam period.
