Outside of his work as a plastic surgeon, Dr. Keith Berman plays the guitar as a hobby. As a musician, Dr. Keith Berman is interested in guitar synthesizers and in digital recording. One of Dr. Berman’s inspirations as a musician is guitar player Steve Vai. Born in 1960, Steve Vai is a highly regarded guitar player who made a name for himself in the guitar community as a member of Frank Zappa’s band in the early 1980s. Later in the decade, he became famous as the lead guitar player with David Lee Roth’s solo band. Over the decades, he has been involved in many projects as a session player, solo artist, and member of various bands. One of Vai’s notable and critically acclaimed solo efforts is his 2001 album Alive in an Ultra World. The live album is 90 minutes long and features a total of 15 songs released on two compact discs. Each song is about one of the countries that Vai and his band visited on the tour when the record was recorded. For example, the first song on the album, Giant Balls of Gold, was written for Poland. Vai’s original plan was to record each song in the country in which it was inspired. However, logistical reasons made this possible for only some of the songs.
