The recipient of a People’s Choice Award from Vitals.com, Dr. Keith Berman provides ambulatory cosmetic surgery in Staten Island, New York. Since 1998, Dr. Keith Berman has performed a range of procedures, including rhinoplasty or nose surgery. This procedure can correct facial imbalances and/or treat breathing problems. Rhinoplasty serves several purposes, such as fixing a deviated septum, changing the nose’s profile, creating symmetry, or altering the nasal tip. All procedures begin with anesthesia. Then, incisions are made, either inside the nose or outside, on the columella, the tissue that separates the nostrils. This process raises the skin and cartilage to allow access for changing the nose’s contours. From here, the surgeon can reduce the nose’s size or build it to a different shape. Cartilage from the septum is often used for this purpose. Plastic surgeons may change the shape of the septum to improve breathing. Once the post-operative swelling is gone, it could take a year for the nose’s new look to be fully revealed. As time goes on and the face ages, cosmetic changes should remain mostly permanent.
