Dr. Keith S. Berman has provided services to patients as a board-certified plastic surgeon from his Staten Island, New York, facility since 1998. Over the past two decades, Dr. Keith Berman MD has performed numerous cosmetic health procedures, including breast augmentation. There are multiple considerations that must be made prior to a breast augmentation procedure. The nation’s most popular cosmetic surgical procedure, breast augmentation operations provide aesthetic and physical benefits to hundreds of thousands of patients every year. To begin, a patient must compare the advantages of silicone and saline implants. Nearly three in four patients continue to use silicone materials thanks to the natural feel, lighter weight, and lower risk for deflation. However, saline implants not only represent a cost-effective alternative to silicone, they involve smaller incisions. Incision scars also must be addressed prior to receiving breast augmentation. In recent years, medical professionals have made considerable progress in relation to the placement and degree of scarring. Patients still must conduct due diligence in regards to inframammary, peri-areolar, and transaxillary incisions before discussing these options with a doctor. Finally, implant size is another topic for discussion. Whether a patient is interested in increasing or decreasing breast size, it is important to discuss the potential aesthetic and physical impact with an experienced surgeon. Early discussions should include what size breasts are proportional to a patient’s body, and what effects different implant sizes and weights can have.
