A board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Keith Berman performs cosmetic procedures like breast augmentation for patients at his private practice in Staten Island, New York. Before establishing himself as a plastic surgeon, Dr. Keith Berman underwent residency training through the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. The breast augmentation procedure is effective in helping patients attain cosmetic goals related to the fullness and balance of their breasts. Candidates for the surgery must have acceptable physical health and realistic expectations in regards to the results of the procedure. Depending on the circumstances, surgeons may perform the operation on an in-patient or an out-patient basis. On the day of surgery, patients are administered anesthesia, after which a surgeon will make an incision in one of several possible places near the breast. For instance, a surgeon may place the incision under the arm or beneath the breast. These locations help mask surgical scarring. Through the opening, the surgeon will then carefully insert a saline-filled breast implant. Finally, the surgeon closes the incision using stitches. During the recovery period, patients may be required to wear a special support bra and commit to reduced activity for a couple of weeks.
